WE DON'T USE KELP OR SEAWEED OF ANY KIND Quite a few companies that sell equine supplements and herbs use ingredients that
we consider to be toxic and unsafe for horses.
One example of this would be seaweed products. (Dulse, Bladderwrack, Kelp, etc.) These products can contain extremely high amounts of iodine which can be fatally toxic to your horse. We do not use any of these products in our formulas.
OTHER HERBS THAT WE AVOID USING BLACK WALNUT - Can be toxic to horses.
BLACK COHOSH - There have been reports of liver problems with this herb.
BLESSED THISTLE - Can cause toxic skin effects.
BONESET - Long term use can result in toxicity.
CASCARA SAGRADA - Acts as a laxative. Unless the horse needs a laxative, we do not believe in using this herb for horses.
CELERY (Plant, root, seeds) Should not be used in large amounts. Reduces blood pressure.
CHAPARRAL - Recommended for external use only! Taken internally it can cause liver damage.
COMFREY - May cause liver damage if taken internally.
FEVERFEW - Can cause internally bleeding if mixed with medications that thin the blood.
HOREHOUND - Large doses may cause irregular heart rhythms.
HORSETAIL - Enzymes in this herb can destroy Vitamin B1.
HYDRANGEA (LEAVES) - The leaves of this plant contain cyandie and can be toxic.
LICORICE - Should not be used on a daily basis for more than 7 days as this can result in high blood pressure and low potassium levels.
If you see any of these herbs listed in a formula you were thinking about buying, you should think again!
WHY ARE SOME HERBS NOT SAFE FOR A PREGNANT MARE? Herbs are a powerful form of medicine. So powerful that they can actually heal your horse of many different ailments! Some herbs are not safe for a pregnant mare due to the fact that they can actually induce labor. For that reason we have indicated on our products which ones should not be given to the pregnant mare.
